BIOGRAPHY

[I cannot fully guarantee, that all the facts are true. That's just what I found out in interviews and articles. So don't kill me if I'm wrong, but tell me if you know better.]


· Matt was born somewhat between January 3rd and 7th in 1974

· he's from Brisbane

· he discovered his passion for the theater as a teenager, but was too shy to tell his mates about it, because they thought it was boring

· the first play he ever saw was "the taming of the shrew" on a school excursion as a teenager

· "Immediately it blew me away. It was magic. There it was, all happening right in front of me."

· as they left the theatre, his mates bagged the Queensland Theatre Company production, so he kept his elation to himself

· he graduated from high school in 1991

· because he didn't know what to study, matt enlisted in the army in 1992

· he joined the army because he wanted to see australia

· the army made him a man: "There is a security with rules," he recalls, "and temptation with freedom."

· he signed a 5 year contract, but opted out in 1994, because a change of government brought new rules

· back in the real world, his biggest temptation was theatre. and he indulged. Matt joined a local amateur production company and scored his first dramatic role. "I was the guy getting crucified alongside Jesus!"

· after his time in the army, he played theater at night and welded in factories or worked as a cleaner during the day

· an agent discovered him as Lysander in "a midsummer nights dream", signed him up and he began to work professional

· his first paid gig was as Jarod in Blackrock for La Boite Theatre

· because he wanted to do better, he enrolled in NIDA in 1999

· he married jacqui in 1998

· they got divorced

· he graduated from NIDA in 2001 and auditioned for "the taming of the shrew"

· he got the role of petruchio, who had impressed him the most

· Matt toured Australia with the Bell Shakespeare Company

· in 2002 he moved into TV, as semi-regular Pete Jones in "Always Greener"

· since 2002 he's a presenter on the children's ABS show "Play School" and continues his work ever since

· his favorite actors when he was a child were John Wood and Paul Bishop, who he saw in his very first play

· 2003 he played wheelchair-bound Brad in Blue Heelers, alongside John Wood and Paul Bishop

· in 2004 he was on The Cooks as Jake

· he joined the McLeod's cast in August 2006

· he's currently dating Rachael Carpani, who he met on the set of McLeod's Daughters





   FACTS


· Matt owns a Yamaha YZF-R6 [yes, it's a motorbike]

· Matt likes to play Rugby and says about himself, he is not good at football

· he's lived in no less than four different australian cities so far: Brisbane (where he was raised), Sydney (for his studies at NIDA), Melbourne (for shooting "Last Man Standing", and Adelaide (for McLeod's)
